Glamorous Damage – GUM

GUM‘s second solo album was one of the most anticipated of the year for me personally. The Tame Impala and POND member seems to be taking a much more dance-friendly turn on his newest release, but keeping all of the body-launching astral brain tricks he is known for.

Paper Mache Dream Balloon – King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

I documented an exploration of the full album earlier today, as it was another record I was really excited about this month. Though the group have kept some of the signature psych meltdowns from their previous work, this time they are taking a much dreamier folk approach. KGATLW have an extensive European/US tour planned for next year.

Vitals – MUTEMATH

“Every time you go into making a record you are playing mind games with yourself”, MUTEMATH keyboardist Paul Meany explained to Front Row Live last fall. If their new single “Monument” is any indication, those games result in some ridiculously catchy alt-pop tunes. I literally had to play their new single 4 times after the first listen. The Grammy nominated New Orleans band will be touring UK/US with a few other European dates this winter.

Days of Yesteryear – Mystic Braves

Los Angeles based Mystic Braves drop their third full length album this week, opening with surf-rock ballad “To Myself”, a plea to a lover to be exclusive. The sun-soaked melodies will be a welcomed gift for those wanting to extend their summer vibes.

No EP – YAK

I featured new UK group YAK  as my first Sparked up band earlier in the week. So what will this EP do for new listeners?According to Third Man Records, “It’s gonna gnarl through your speakers and bludgeon you with pure nihilism fuzz”. The band will start a headlining UK tour this week.
